Yeah. People are stupid. I get it. But, that doesn't explain how 100 can be the designed middle ground of IQ and 98 still be the national average.

Well.. it's the difference between figuring the mean (which is the middle ground) and average. A mean is basically taking all the statistical numbers in numerical order and picking the one directly in the middle. Like, IQ's could range like this: 3, 6, 100, 180, 200
Despite the range of numbers, 100 is the middle ground, or mean.

Does that explain it? Razz

Not really, because that's exactly how they determined the average (also known as mean) IQ in America was 98. Unless people are continuing to get stupider at a rate too fast to keep the average IQ at 100, then..... Ohhh.... Nevermind.

that's not how you determine average.

An average would be all the numbers added together and then divided by however many numbers you have.

In my example, the mean is 100 but the average is 97.8.

Wait. I was confused because you were.

Mean and average are the same. You add the numbers and divide by the number of numbers. What you mentioned earlier. Picking the number exactly in the middle. That's median.
